The Volabulary is a collection of words useful for Italian and English learners (and hey, you never stop learning!).

Many Italians learning English (and I suspect also many English speakers learning Italian) have been frustrated by how the perception of "difficulty" changes between the two languages. As an example, if Italians subscribe to the "Merriam Webster word of the day" they are quickly bored by words of latin origin which they already know, since they are exactly the same in Italian. Examples? "Clandestine", "posthumous", "indoctrinate" and "indigenous".

So I decided to start a small site where (hopefully) every day I add a word that Italians can find interesting in English, and English speakers can find interesting in Italian. Not to make things too boring or academic, I also add a short thought in both languages, and sometimes a picture.

One may argue that the process is actually inverted, and I actually start from the thought or picture, and only later link with the chosen word. If you think so, but still think the contents are funny on their own, you can happily peruse this site as you would a normal blog, and completely forget about the didascalic intent.

Il Volabolario è una collezione di parole utili a persone che stanno imparando l'italiano o l'inglese (e, dai, non si smette mai di imparare).

Molti italiani che imparano l'inglese (e sospetto anche molti anglofoni che imparano l'italiano) sono stati frustrati da come la percezione di "difficoltà" cambi tra le due lingue. Come esempio, se un italiano si abbona alla "Merryam Webster word of the day", si annoia velocemente con parole di origine latina che conosce gia perché sono uguali in italiano. Alcuni esempi? "Clandestine", "posthumous", "indoctrinate" e "indigenous".

Ho deciso quindi di iniziare un piccolo sito dove (si spera) ogni giorno aggiungo una parola che gli italiani possono trovere interessante in inglese, e gli anglofoni possono trovare interessante in italiano. Per rendere le cose non troppo noiose o accademiche, aggiungo anche un pensiero corto in entrambe le lingue, e alcune volte un'immagine.

Uno potrebbe discutere sul fatto che il processo sia in realtà invertito, e che io in realtà inizi dal pensiero o dall'immagine, e solo in un secondo momento mi colleghi alla parola scelta. Se pensate così, ma pensate anche che i testi siano divertenti da soli, potete tranquillamente usare questo sito come un blog normale, dimenticandovi del tutto dell'intento didascalico.
