This odd set of instructions for using a phone was sent by a colleague of mine some time ago:

"C. When the third component answers (step B) push the number three (i.e. the numeric button with the "3" diphthong written on it)".

Why on earth a "diphthong"? Isn't "3" simply a "number"? At the very worst, it can be "the name of an UMTS operator", but no, not a "diphthong"!

Note: "diphthong" has a really weird english spelling!

Questo strano set di istruzioni per usare un telefono e' stato mandato da un mio collega un po' di tempo fa:

"C. quando il terzo componente risponde (passo B) schiacciare il numero tre (ovvero il bottone numerico con su scritto il dittongo "3")".

Perche' mai "dittongo"? "3" non e' semplicemente un "numero". Alla peggio, puo' essere "il nome di un operatore UMTS", ma no, non un "dittongo"!

Nota: "diphthong" ha un'ortografia davvero strana in inglese!
